Apple Drugs Diabetes Center becomes an AADE-accredited diabetes education program
Salisbury, Maryland — Apple Drugs Diabetes Center was recently named an accredited diabetes education program by the American Association of Diabetes Educators. This will allow residents in and around the Salisbury, MD area increased access to critical diabetes education services.
Diabetes education as a collaborative process through which people with or at risk for diabetes gain the knowledge and skills needed to modify behavior and successfully self-manage the disease and its related conditions. It is provided by diabetes educators.
Apple Drugs Diabetes Center, located at 404 N. Fruitland Blvd, Salisbury MD 21801, will be offering diabetes education classes at Apple Discount Drugs, Fruitland location on the last 3 Wednesdays of the month at 1:00PM-4:00 PM and 5:00- 8:00 PM. There will be a series of three 3 hour classes per month on various topics related to diabetes self-management and education.
“The goal of the Apple Diabetes Center is to empower the patient with diabetes to take an active role in the management of their disease of diabetes, and to partner with them and their health care provider to give patients a better quality of life and to reduce overall health care expenses. We intend to do this in a comfortable and accessible setting” said John Motsko, RPh, CDE, program coordinator.
“Trends show that diabetes education is moving out of the hospital and into the community, so AADE’s accreditation program was created, in part, to encourage diabetes education where the patient is seeking care,” said Leslie E. Kolb, RN, BSN, MBA, Program Director, Diabetes Education Accreditation Program. “Apple Drugs Diabetes Center is exactly the type of program we envisioned when we set up our accreditation program in 2009.”
