APPLE DISCOUNT DRUGS PRESIDENT JEFF SHERR HONORED AS OUTSTANDING EXECUTIVE LEADER OF THE YEAR
Fruitland – September, 2013 – Apple Discount Drugs, a locally owned Health Mart pharmacy, is pleased to announce President Jeff Sherr has been nationally recognized as the PSPC (Patient Safety and Clinical Pharmacy Services Collaborative) Award recipient for Outstanding Executive Leader. Jeff is being nationally honored for his leadership, superior level of service and credit from his team and stakeholders in the community for doing the “right” thing for patients.
“It is a humbling experience to be nationally recognized among your peers,” said Jeff Sherr, Apple Discount Drugs, president. “I accepted this award on behalf of the Apple team that continues to dedicate countless hours to the betterment of patient care and coordination.”
Apple Discount Drugs participated in the PSPC pilot project which uses a fast-paced continuous improvement method designed to help test and spread leading practices found to significantly improve health outcomes and patient safety through integrated clinical pharmacy services. This program is one of many quality improvement initiatives underway to reduce adverse drug events (AED’s) in high risk patient populations, such as senior citizens.
Apple certified diabetes educators focused their attention on Medicare patients with uncontrolled diabetes for this particular PSPC project. They monitored and managed sixty patients to assist them in reducing their A1C levels and adverse drug events. In addition, Apple also monitored these patients for re-admissions to the hospital. They experienced great success among all parameters of the program.
“This initiative will play a critical role in the direction healthcare reform is taking the care of patients in the entire country,” said Jeff Sherr, Apple Discount Drugs, president. “We don’t want to sit by and let others set the new norm for patient care. Apple Discount Drugs has always been at the forefront of healthcare by providing cutting edge technology, added value services and resources to every customer who walks through our doors.”
“This award is yet another documentation of Jeff’s amazing business acumen,” said John Motsko, Apple Certified Diabetes Educator. “Very few individuals I have met in my personal and professional life compare to Jeff Sherr. Apple, Salisbury, the individuals we serve and Len Winkleman, former owner, should be very proud of what Jeff and his team have accomplished. Very few have done more for patients in the complex healthcare system we are in.”
More about PSPC
PSPC members represent hospitals, community health centers, colleges and schools of pharmacy, primary care associations, state health departments, and rural health clinics. In its first two years, PSPC focused on small panels of high-risk, high-cost, complex patients whose needs were considered beyond the reach of the traditional healthcare delivery system. Based on data collected from the early PSPC teams, 54% of patients once identified as “out of control” or not optimally medically managed became “under control” across a range of chronic conditions. Additionally, ADEs fell by an average of 49%.
