Rob Horsey, Compounding Pharmacist
Rob has been with Apple Discount Drugs since 1988. He graduated from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy in 1986. Rob works in the Compounding lab and turns tablets into liquids, adds flavor for children and pets, mixes topical creams and transforms medicine into pet treats. Rob knew he wanted to be a pharmacist as a young child. He remembers a local pharmacist by the name of Basil Johns in Marion Station where he grew up. Mr. Johns was the man everyone went to see when they were sick or had a medical problem. Rob enjoys working for Apple because of the people, employees and the focus on customer service. “It’s the best pharmacy on the East Coast!”
Kathy Doyle, R.Ph.
Kathy has worked with Apple Discount Drugs since 1993. She earned her bachelors’ degree of science in pharmacy from the University of Maryland, School of Pharmacy. Kathy is a staff pharmacist with a specialty in compounding. For the past seven years, Kathy has worked with a team of compounding pharmacists in Apple’s state-of-the-art compounding lab to customize prescriptions for customers.
Geoff Twigg, Board Certified Ambulatory Care Pharmacist
Geoff has been working for Apple Discount Drugs since 2000. What started as a summer job in 1999, has grown into a career for Twigg. Twigg is a graduate of Shenandoah University, School of Pharmacy and as one of four PharmD practitioners on staff at Apple Discount Drugs, provides free medication management therapy to customers. People can “brown bag” all of the prescribed medications, OTC supplies and supplements they are taking, bring them to Apple and sit down with Geoff to look for problems or complications their medications may be causing. Discovering inadequate doses or alternative drugs that offer lower cost generics, the service provides a better health care plan and savings for each customer. Twigg also recently achieved Certified Diabetes Educator® (CDE®) status by successfully completing the Certification Examination for Diabetes Educators.
Joanne Sherr, Pharmacist, Compliance Officer
What many people may not realize is that Joanne Sherr, wife to Jeff Sherr, president of Apple, actually started working for Apple before her husband. Upon graduation from University of Maryland School of Pharmacy in 1978, Joanne started working for Rite Aid on the Eastern Shore and subsequently for Drug Fair in Cambridge, Maryland. She joined the staff of what was then Ames Plaza Drugs in 1981 and hasn’t looked back. Joanne is also one of the staff licensed to immunize. She values the family friendly environment and schedule the company provides for its employees and the hometown feel and energy Apple offers to customers and staff.
Dan Balish, Pharmacist
Dan pursued a post-graduate PharmD (Doctor of Pharmacy) degree and has worked for Apple since 2006. He is also one of the staff licensed to immunize. Dan says Apple Discount Drugs is the best run pharmacy on the Eastern Shore. “I only want to work with the best!”
Mary Todd, Pharmacist, Pharmacy Supervisor
Mary has worked at Apple Discount Drugs since 1997. She enjoys working in a close knit store and developing close relationships with customers. Mary is also licensed to immunize customers and patients. She knows people who are not regular customers of Apple who call for advice and help from Apple pharmacists because they trust their opinions and expertise. You may recognize Mary from Snow Hill Pharmacy as well.
Zack Sherr, Pharmacist
Zack Sherr, son of Apple owner Jeff Sherr, graduated on May 16, 2014 with a Doctor of Pharmacy from UMES School of Pharmacy. Prior to attending UMES, Sherr majored in Business Information Technology for two years at Virginia Tech and then transferred to Salisbury University where he majored in Biology.
During his time at UMES School of Pharmacy, Sherr completed two years of year-round course work and a third year of advanced pharmacy practice experience; similar to eight 5-week internships. He put in time at the Apple Discount Drugs pharmacy counter, Apple Home Infusion, Ambulatory Care, Advanced Community, Atlantic General Hospital, PRMC Acute Care, Tawes Nursing Home and two sessions at UMES where he did leadership rotations and research projects on compounding practices.
Zack may be the most recent addition to the pharmacy team at Apple Discount Drugs but this is certainly not the first time he has worked for the family business.
“I started emptying trash cans and filling the soda machines when I was 14,” said Zack Sherr. “I learned at a young age that there really is no such thing as a free ride – you have to work for what you want. My father taught me that if you want something bad enough you will push yourself to the limit. Even if it is intimidating, you just have to give it your best and never give up.”
David Leach, Pharmacist
David Leach graduated from Eastern University in 2003 with a degree in biogenetics with a concentration in sports medicine. Soon thereafter he became an athletic trainer in the public school system in Doylestown, Pennsylvania. In 2006, he moved to Seaford, Delaware to open up a restaurant with his wife. After ten years in the restaurant business he decided to go back to school and graduated from the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in May of 2016. Leach was assigned to do rotations at Apple Discount Drugs and was hired upon graduation.
“I like taking care of people and making sure they get the maximum benefit to reach their health goals,” said Leach.
Ben Forrest, Pharmacist
Ben Forrest joined the Apple pharmacy team in 2015. He did his undergrad work at Towson University and graduated from UMES School of Pharmacy in 2014. His prior work experience was with a chain pharmacy but made the switch to Apple because it is a more community centered pharmacy and offers many different unique services. Ben enjoys working with the staff and having the opportunity to meet new people and get to know the customers. He and his wife, who is also a pharmacist, live in Salisbury. In his free time he enjoys watching movies and spending time with family and friends.
Matthew Balish, Pharmacist
